Principal’s Message

Dear Families, Scholars, and Community Members,

Welcome to a new and exciting year at Hartsfield Elementary.  We are an Animal & Environmental Sciences Magnet School.  I am honored to serve as your principal as we nurture young learners who are curious about our natural world and passionate about academic success.

🌿 A Learning Experience Rooted in Nature and Academics

At our school, students embark on a hands-on, discovery-based journey that bridges nature and core academic learning:

Science & Environmental Studies: Through caring for classroom habitats, outdoor gardens, and conservation projects, learners observe ecosystems in action and engage in inquiry-based lessons.

Reading & Writing (ELA): Whether documenting wildlife journals, crafting stories about animal adventures, or reading environmental nonfiction, literacy blooms.

Mathematics: Students measure plant growth, analyze animal data sets, and solve real-world math problems tied to ecology and sustainability.

Social Studies: Learners explore human–environment interactions, community stewardship, and global ecological traditions.

Specials & Enrichment: STEM, thematics, and physical education often intersect with our environmental mission—think wildlife-inspired artwork, nature songs, and outdoor games and movement.

🎓 Academic Excellence & Engagement

Our dedicated faculty deliver a strong foundational curriculum aligned with state standards, integrated with our magnet themes. Through project-based learning, small group work, and field experiences, students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and scientific reasoning.

🤝 Character & Community

We nurture ethical stewardship and responsibility in every student. Through service projects like recycling initiatives, garden care, and wildlife awareness campaigns, scholars actively contribute to a greener community.

🗓️ Looking Ahead

This year, our calendar is filled with exciting events:

  • Fall Outdoor Nature Fair, showcasing student projects and habitat work
  • Read‑aloud and journaling mornings in our outdoor learning garden
  • Family Volunteer Days: community planting, clean-up, and habitat enhancement
🎒 Join Us on the Journey

Families are essential partners in our mission. Your support in reading at home, exploring nature together, and encouraging scientific curiosity helps reinforce what we nurture here. Please reach out if you’d like to volunteer, share feedback, or participate in school initiatives.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education. Together, we look forward to a year of growth, curiosity, and joyful learning.

Warm regards,
Travis Johnson, M.Ed.
